Beyond The Celtic Cross: Secret techniques for taking Tarot to an exciting new level

by Douglas Gibb on December 18, 2009

Beyond the Celtic Cross: Secret techniques for taking Tarot to an exciting new level, is a book that’s been co-authored by Catherine Chapman of Tarot Elements and Paul Hughes-Barlow of Supertarot.

Before this book went to press, I was asked by Catherine and Paul if I would like to write a Foreward for this book. Apart from being deeply honored by the invitation, I was also really excited to see what they had done with the Celtic Cross. I wasn’t disappointed.

Beyond the Celtic Cross: Secret Techniques for Taking Tarot to an Exciting New Level starts by exploring the Celtic Cross; it quickly moves from a general introduction towards a great overview of Elemental Dignities, reading in triads and the all important card counting technique.

There are many different platforms that a Tarot reader can work from. They can engage in face-to-face readings, text based readings, email and phone readings, but it is in through the medium of phone readings that I think this book will be of enormous benefit. The techniques are fast, accurate and easy to use … everything you want if you work for a psychic phone line.

In fact, they would work well for any platform in which you use or work with the Tarot, but given the speed and accuracy in which information can be gathered, interpreted, translated and communicated, it is especially suited for those people who either work or want to work for a Psychic Phone line.

The other really interesting dimension to this book is Catherine’s own Spiritual journey. Near the end of this book, we are introduced to powerful initiatory visions. These visions seem to be the direct result of working with the techniques presented in this book.

I really enjoyed this book. It brings a fresh, exciting and useful perspective to working with the Celtic Cross, and the Tarot in general.

I’m sure it is! I’m really excited – I went to amazon and looks like I have to wait a bit longer before it is available here. Bummer! By the way, I love the picture of you! It’s great!

Ah, bummer about the wait :)

It’s one of those books that’s got a practical edge that I find other Tarot books lack. I’m sure you’ll really enjoy it when you read it :D

LOL The picture is shocking, but it made me smile so I thought I’d run with it :D

Hey Doug,
If it is practical, then it has my name written all over it. I am sure it will be a good read. I’ve been waiting with bated breath for this to come out! I don’t know why there is a hold up here on amazon….

I think the picture is great. You kinda resemble my son in that pic! LOL

This is so totally awesome! I have so been waiting for this book. And I can’t wait to read it. The minute I do, I’m posting a long detailed review of it! You and Catherine are two of my favorite Tarot writers, and I’m so glad the two of you collaborated on this project.

PS: This is the only thing that nagged at me too much that I just couldn’t swallow it. So please forgive this very early and premature piece of criticism that’s coming from a place of love and admiration. Not one to judge a book by the cover, but Paul, I so hope for the second printing/edition, you guys hire a better designer to do the cover. I’d even do it for free!

Looking forward to this book very much. Looks like we’ll be able to get in the States in January. Hmmmm. Perhaps in time for my birthday :-)

I was disappointed that we in the US have to wait a few months for local availability, as well… but I have no doubt it will be worth the wait. Then it can sit proudly next to Tarot and the Magus on my bookshelf. :)

I didn’t know you’d written the forward; that’s cool.

And I, too, like the pic. You look ready for the cold, winter weather that we’ve had where I live!

Hi Jason,

It was really cool when I was asked to write it for them – honored!

LOL, yeah it’s a cold one over here. Snow is falling and it’s hat, scarf and glove time :D

Hi Helen,

Thank you for your kind words. It felt really good to be asked to write the foreward for both Paul and Catherine and I’m sure when ever you get a chance to read it, you’ll love it as much as I do :)
